I first tried using a LaCie 301848U USB 2.0 Neil Poulton 1TB Rugged XL eSATA External Hard Drive
The case is nice and cushiony! I think this drive will have decent shock resistance, but my problem was trying to use it with SBS2008 on a DL360G5 server. Initial plug in and detect was ok, but when trying to run the SBS backup, the entire server bogged down to thousands of times slower than normal. Exiting the backup did not help, not did removing power from the drive. The server returned to normal after disconnecting the USB plug (drive power was already off).

I returned these and now am using Toshiba Canvio Plus 1.0 TB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive E05A100PBU2XK which mostly work (server will not reboot with drive plugged in). Backup seems to be ok, just need to plug back in after a restart.
