Cisco WAP4410N Wireless-N Access Point – PoE/Advanced Security CustomerReview
This is a great product but if you have little or no network knowledge, little or no router or DHCP server understanding, this product MAY not be for you. The product instructions tell you that when you have the WAP turned on and connected to your network, to logon to the unit at a specific IP address, much like you would do with your router. The problem is, if you have a DHCP server on your network, such as the DHCP server found on most home routers, it will most likely have assigned the WAP a different IP address than the instructions tell you to go to. In my case, I located the WAP in the NETWORK utility on my computer OS and looked at the properties of the WAP to find its IP address. After finding this information, I was able to logon to the WAP and to make all of the necessary changes to the access point’s configuration. When in the configuration setup of the WAP, I changed it’s IP address to a FIXED IP so that the DHP server would not change it again, should the WAP be turned off and on for some reason like a power failure. If I were to make one suggestion to Cisco about this product, it would be to give it a fixed IP address as the default.
